There is a woman that has been sitting outside the front door of the shelter for two days. Today I attempted to give her water and some fruit. She was frightened of me. She recoiled, told me No! She wanted nothing to do with me.

I tried telling her the guard just told me, no one will help her until tomorrow. They wont, but they will talk to her and then send her away.

I tried telling her that I'd called months earlier and never got in. But she was too distraught by my presence.

This world we've created is unnecessarily cruel. They pit desperate people against desperate people.

She is black woman and I am white man.

That is enough, in this system, to keep us segregated by skins tones, rather than united by the character, perseverance, and strength that our completely disparate yet valid experiences have led us towards. I can not know her pain. I will never. I can try. And try again.

Navigating Creative Anxiety

In Europe, there is an amazing toothpaste, that can reverse the effects of cavities on the tooth. In the toothpaste is a patented ingredient that actively repairs tooth decay. The toothpaste will never be approved by the FDA in America, as it would wreck the monopolized, for profit, dental businesses. In March of 2024, I gave my mother, a tube of the toothpaste, imported, at great cost, as she had a mouthful of failing teeth and gums due to three litres of white wine a night. Now, had I given this too her in, say, March of 2017, right after she complimerited me on my Art Direction in a faux commercial from HBO's Leftovers that opened an episode, she'd have bought a case of them from her slumped position on the couch. As it stands, or sits: The tube lies, unused, deep in her bathroom drawer to this day. She has had many fillings, gum surgeries, root canals, and crowns in that time. Years later, when the dust has settled, and American Business has found a way to leach profit from this technology, they will pump out expensive ads, billboards, and celebrity endorsements. Then, you may purchase this new but identical toothpaste, for many times to cost, without hesitation. We live in a world where who says what dictates truth. We no longer believe one another. We no longer react in real time to ideas, but to the person or entity expressing them. Facts mean nothing. Verification means nothing. Answers are seconds away and yet we are further from understanding one another than ever before in human history. Our leaders, globally believe one thing. Time is money. Money is god. The end always justifies the means. All is and are expendable under the Right conditions. Kindness is toxic. Compassion is for chumps. The truth is simple , and this is a truth many already feel and understand in their flawed and mortal human hearts. Consciousness is a gift and a curse, but more than anything, it is a responsibility. Whether we brought ourselves into this mess or not, we are here. It matters not who raised us or where we are from. Most know that goodness is preferred, cruelty is unjust. We aim as individuals and coalitions to do the best we can, pragmatically, for ourselves and those around us. Ideally, we also account for the larger world's kindness that we may never know nor see with our own eyes, but have watched, heard, and felt depicted in all the music, films, and books we've grown up loving. Dirty deeds are always cheap. We may hate, despair, and fight for scraps, As our lecherous leaders have trained us to. Or we can chose to, Love, as our musicians love. Hope, as our philosophers hope. Thrive, as our artists thrive. The choice is truly ours, in a world like this.

It's a work in progress, but I'm learning to embrace the uncertainty. After all, creativity thrives in the unknown.
